Dear mine
OVERALL HMOCS STATISTICS
When John Morris was in Hong Kong last week he was given a copy of the enclosed sheet of overall HMOCS Statistics which is marked
"approximate as at October 1992".
I have studied these figures and find that they differ somewhat from the latest statistics held by the Overseas Development Administration. The ODA's statistics are contained on a disc provided by you on 11 September 1992.
The September statistics give the number of serving HMOCS members as 775 and the potential number of members as 91, which gives an overall number of 886. However, the October statistics give the overall number of members (including potential members) as only 750. Have the numbers of serving and potential members changed this dramatically over the last month?
Also the September statistics show the number of potential members of HMOCS as being:
Judicial
Administrative
11
0
Police
5
Others
71
Total
91
These figures seem rather odd, given that we know that there are 24 potential members from the Judiciary and 84 from the Police Force.
The October figures give an estimate of 250 officers retiring normally before 1997. The ODA have calculated, using the September statistics, that the number retiring before 1997, if the normal retiring age was 55, would be 258 in all. However, if the normal retiring age was taken as 57 or 60 then this figure would be a lot smaller. Please could you let me know on what basis your retirement statistics are calculated?
