Mr. Goodlad said that discussions continued with the Treasury. He could not guarantee when they would be concluded. But he was determined that this matter should be properly settled.

Mr. Weaver asked whether it would be possible for the Association to be told of any individual points which might be agreed in Whitehall in advance of agreement on an overall package. Mr. Goodlad indicated that it would make sense to hold further consultations when HMG had completed its review of all the issues.

Mr. Leeds (a retired HMOCS officer) drew attention to the plight of current HMOCS pensioners who had seen a significant fall in the Sterling value of their pensions. He handed over the attached letter to the South China Morning Post from a pensioner which illustrated the point. If that could happen now under British Administration, what hopes could HMOCS pensioners have for the future? Mr. Goodlad made clear that he well understood this point.
Mr. Birch concluded by referring again to the need for some positive news before the end of the year if there was not to be serious trouble from the HMOCS members.
