As you know I asked Michael Stone if he could find out how many contract officers have the right to transfer to HMOCS and what is the Hong Kong Government's latest estimate of the numbers likely to take up the option. Emma Williams spoke to Mike Waters today and he said that there are now 238 eligible contract officers but they expected only 50 would seek permanent and pensionable status. I still believe that this latter figure could be considerably higher if the final compensation package is rather more attractive than that currently on the table. But for the time being we can produce expenditure estimates based on the figures provided by Mr Waters.
