Deadline for New Pension Scheme Option

for officers transferred to pensionable terms

Civil Service Branch Circular No. 2/88 dated (copy attached) stipulates that agreement officers who transfer to pensionable terms may apply to join the New Pension Scheme (NPS) within the specified option period (before 1 July 1992) or 6 months from the date they transfer to pensionable terms whichever is the later.

wish to bring to your attention the implications of this circular on some 240 potential HMOCS officers who are eligible LO apply for transfer to pensionable terms on or before 30 June 1992.

I

These 240 agreement officers must apply for transfer to permanent terms on or before 30.6.92 but they can decide whether or not to join the NPS within six months of their approved transfer. Given that it takes a few weeks to process their applications, if they apply just before the deadline for transfer to p.e., they are eligible to opt

join the NPS in December 1992. In effect, we would know how many of these 240 officers would transfer to p.e. and join HMOCS by mid-1992, but the exact number on the OPS or NPS would only be known by early 1993.
