16.

Withdrawal of application for re-employment after retirement

Officers who have been offered re-employment after retirement under the old pension scheme commencing on or after 1 July 1987 may withdraw their applications for re-employment after retirement, and apply to join the NPS.

INFORMATION ON THE NEW PENSION SCHEME

Examples showing the calculation of pension benefits under the NPS and the old pension scheme are

at Annex E for reference. An information booklet on the New Pension Scheme will be distributed to individual officers nearing retirement/resignation as soon as they are available.

The Director of Accounting Services will shortly send to each eligible serving officer via his department a statement of comparative benefits giving him an estimate of his benefits on retirement at normal retirement age under both the new scheme and the old scheme and indicating the expiry date of his option period. If an officer has not received such a statement by 1 November 1987, he should make enquiries with his department.

AMENDMENTS TO CIVIL SERVICE REGULATIONS

Amendments to the relevant Civil Service Regulations and Annexes to reflect the new arrangements would be issued at a later stage.

Heads of Departments are requested to ensure that this Circular is circulated to all serving officers in their departments and to give the names and telephone numbers of their officers to whom enquiries should be made.
