3. In addition UK pensions legislation provides that all HMOCS pensioners resident in the UK are entitled to certain UK pension supplements (Supplementary Pension for Overseas Service: SPOS) to help match UK retail price inflation. This additional safeguard applies to pensioners of the present Dependent Territories as well as to pensioners of former Dependent Territories.

NOTE: No significant number of HMOCS officers served in Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu,which have also attained independence since 1954. The Maldives have also became fully independent since 1954 (in 1965) but had already achieved internal self-government in 1948.
