13 April would mean that we must get a statement of our position to HMOCS officers by the end of March. I think this is too rushed a timetable and might leave dangerous loose ends.

I should also record that I have been in touch with PPD about the possiblity of securing Mr Fifoot's services.

They are sending me the papers on making an ad hoc fee paid appointment, which is more straight-forward than a consultancy, unless the individual concerned is a self-employed consultant. There may be a financial problem: such appointments are normally at DS5 but we should be able to get approval for DS4 treatment, ie a payment of £145 per day. But Mr Fifoot was Senior Grade when he retired and despite his interest in HMOCS matters, might feel it wrong to compromise the principle that the labourer is worthy of his hirer. I have drafted a minute about our need for his services (attached): you could draw on this when we know exactly what the administration require.
