Q:
You're going in there though, optimistic sir, hopefully.
Mr Galsworthy:
I didn't say that. Nobody reading what the left-wing press have said over the last few weeks could possibly feel optimistic. I said that we think, since our propositions were based on suggestions the Chinese themselves put forward, that they should be able
be able to give a positive response. I suspend judgment until I hear what it is.
Q:
will you respond to their counter-proposal very soon, like the
last time?
Mr Galsworthy:
It really depends what it is.
it is. I'm not going to predict how we'll respond until I know what they've said. They may say "yes" in which case of course we'll respond immediately.
Q:
will you be raising the possibility that the Hong Kong Government might go it alone on the airport project?
Mr Galsworthy:
No, we're here, as the Governor made clear himself earlier in the week, we're here to try and reach agreement with the Chinese and that's what we'll be putting our efforts into.
Reporter:
Well, good luck sir.
