OVERSEAS PROJECT FUND: HONG KONG AIRPORT DEVELOPMENT

I spoke to you last week about a concern Trafalgar House has about the immediate repayment of £1,449,000 under the Overseas Project Fund arrangements (your Mr Arjan's letter to D. Thewlis of Trafalgar House Corporate Development refers).

As I explained, Trafalgar House are worried by the present uncertainty in Hong Kong/PRC relations over the airport which they feel might affect the continuation of the AJC contract for the Tsing Ma Bridge. In these circumstances they would prefer not to refund the figure of £1,449,000 which, by the way, they agree is correct, until the situation with China is clarified, unless of course you are able to provide from Government some assurance that the Tsing Ma Bridge contract is unlikely to be interrupted.

When we spoke, you agreed to give some consideration to this and let me have your views.

You

ever,

For

Sir Gordon Manzie, KCB
