HONG KONG: AWARD OF THE BRIDGE CONTRACT
1. As agreed, I submit a Private Secretary letter to Number 10, enclosing a form of words which the Prime Minister might use on 7 May welcoming the Hong Kong
Government's announcement that day of the award of the bridge contract to the Anglo-Japanese consortium.
2.
I also submit a draft line to take for News Department.
This should not be used until after the Hong Kong Government
have made their statement (at 0500 BST on Thursday 7 May).
It is important that no public confirmation of the press speculation about the award of the contract to the AJC
should be given until after that time.
