Passenger Terminal Apron Area

The terminal apron area is the pavement surrounding the passenger concourses where taxilangs, aircraft parking, service roads and arcs to carry out support func- tions are located.

For the ultimate development. 120 aircraft positions are planned. Of these. 90 will be frontal gates, located adjacent to the pas- senger concourses and equipped with pas- senger loading bridges. The remaining 30 will be remote aircraft parking positions. located between the taxilanes and parallel taxiways. Buses will be provided to convey passengers Between the passenger con- courses and the remote parking positions.

The apron layout will accommodate move- ment of the same large, high-capacity aircraft used in the design of the runways

and taxiways. The proposed Boeing 747- 500 was used as the design aircraft. The ultimate plan includes 65 parking positions. for the high-capacity aircraft. 53 positions for other wide bodied aircraft and two posi- tions for narrow bodied aircraft. The apron layout takes into account the forecast aircraft fleet mix. the manner in which the gates are likely to be managed, and the configuration of the terminal building.

There will be simple, direct and clearly delineated routes on the passenger ter- minal apron for aircraft and support vehicles, with maximized visibility for all manoeuvring.

Other Terminal Complex Features Important features of the terminal complex provided for in the schematic design in- clude the following:

In addition to the moving walkways and the people mover system, escalators, ramps and lifts to be provided within the terminal building to assist passenger circulation and to minimize walking distances,

Tunnel systems for the people mover. baggage handling, system and building services routing to interconnect the ter- minal buildings and concourses.

The mechanical and electrical service sys- tems to provide a cost effective, energy efficient and easily maintainable system, Economical heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems to provide a con- trolled atmosphere within the terminal complex.
