Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS) :

1993 Course

Sandra Lee and Emma Williams have been in correspondence over the 1993 RCDS Course. We are naturally very pleased to note from this that the latest MOD proposals include a place on the Course for Hong Kong.

My reason for writing is to let you know that the candidate we have in mind is Richard Hoare. Richard's outstanding record as Private Secretary (under both Sir Edward

Edward Youde and Lord Wilson) we are anxious to ensure as far as possible that everything goes smoothly. Richard himself also needs to make various personal arrangements in advance; for example he says he would need to give notice to tenants in his London flat in June or July if he is to be able to make use of it at the end of this year.

I therefore felt it would be best if I wrote rather earlier than would normally have been the case, both to let you know that we have a rather different candidate in mind this time around, and to ask whether it would be possible to obtain early confirmation of a place for Richard. I suspect that this last request is easier said than done, but anything you can do to enable us to make a firm commitment to Richard in good time would certainly be greatly appreciated.
