I am writing further to my note to you the other day where I let

you have, in advance of your meeting with them, the case made by

the Hong Kong Chinese Civil Servants Association about their

pensions. I thought the case was a good one and think that

something could be done especially as Mr Lu Ping appears to have

given his support and the matter can be discussed at the JLG.

consideration with a view to doing something to ease the anxiety

that many Hong Kong civil servants must have about the security

of their pensions after 1997.

Yours sincerely,
