I am writing further to my note to you the other day where I let
you have, in advance of your meeting with them, the case made by
the Hong Kong Chinese Civil Servants Association about their
pensions. I thought the case was a good one and think that
something could be done especially as Mr Lu Ping appears to have
given his support and the matter can be discussed at the JLG.
I would be grateful if you would give this matter your careful
consideration with a view to doing something to ease the anxiety
that many Hong Kong civil servants must have about the security
of their pensions after 1997.
