II. Summary dismissal under CR 57(3)

Locate the whereabout of the officer who has been absent from duty without leave or permission e.g. by phoning the officer's home; withhold all sums of money payable to the officer

Issue letter by double registered mail to the officer upon his absence from duty in excess of 7 days to warn him against possible action under CR 57(3)

Allow 14 21 days for the officer to respond (21 days be given for those who are known to have left HK while 14 days be given for those who are believed to be still in HK)

Monitor the return of the record of delivery (Pos. 7/7A) and if necessary, check with PMG to see if the letter has been delivered to the officer if no response is received from the officer at the expiry of the prescribed period

5. Submit recommendation for summary

dismissal to PSC for advice if the officer does not give a satisfactory

explanation for his absence and fails to resume duty before the deadline prescribed by the
