LOCALISATION OF UK LAWS ON CIVIL SERVICE MATTERS
1. This subject last came up in January 1987 when the Hong Kong Government asked our advice about which UK pensions legislation applicable to Hong Kong needed to be localised and incorporated into the laws of Hong Kong. We advised Hong Kong in FCO telno 1162 of 23 April 1987. The Hong Kong Government have now reverted with their comments and I attach Mr Wates letter to Mr Stone of 19 June.

2. As this is a legal rather than a policy matter, I would be very grateful for your advice on the points Mr Wates raises. I attach the 1987 file. It seems that previously the matter was dealt with by Mr Fifoot and Mrs Johnson of the ODA.
