ADDITIONAL UNIFORM CLOTHING
The cost of greatcoats, cloaks and uniform evening dress does not normally qualify for reimbursement. Exceptions may be made for countries where it is the usual practice to wear uniform throughout the year both for daytime and evening functions, but these countries are very few and for many years the cost of greatcoats has been allowed, exceptionally, only to certain Heads of Mission.

ALTERATIONS
When it is necessary to upgrade an officer's uniform, the charges are met from public funds; but only if the officer is taking up an appointment at a Post listed in Annex 9.1. If an officer chooses to buy a new uniform instead of having his existing one altered, he may be reimbursed the amount which would have been spent had the necessary alterations been made. No reimbursement is made in respect of other alterations.
WOMEN OFFICERS
There is no Diplomatic Service uniform for women. Women officers holding an appointment listed in Annex 9.1 are provided with a gilt Diplomatic Service badge on a dark blue silk ribbon. As in paragraph 9.4 there is no requirement for female officers to return their badge and ribbon. If however the officer does not wish to keep them they can be returned to PSD for reissue.

UNIFORMS FOR GOVERNORS OF DEPENDENT TERRITORIES
Governors of Dependent Territories will be entitled to wear on appropriate occasions the blue Full Dress or the white Tropical Uniform prescribed for them. The only exception arises when at the time of their appointment they hold ranks as follows.
(a)
Rear Admiral and above.
(b)
Major General and above.
(c)
Air Vice Marshall and above.

UNIFORMS FOR STAFF IN THE UNITED KINGDOM
The only officers serving at home in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office who need to wear Diplomatic Service Uniform, the purchase or alteration of which may be met from public funds, are as follows:

The Permanent Under-Secretary of State.
(b)
Deputy Under Secretaries of State who have to deputise for the Permanent Under Secretary at credentials presentation ceremonies.
(c)
The Vice Marshal and Assistant Marshals of the Diplomatic Corps.
DEPARTMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
Personnel Services Department is responsible for policy regarding DS uniforms.
