on landing, to pay his official call on the Governor.
In the case of a foreign reigning sovereign or heir
apparent, a President of a republic or the chief officer of
a special mission representing for the purpose of his
mission either a reigning sovereign or a President of a
republic, the Governor should make the first call, either to the ship in the event of arrival by sea, or by attendance at
the airfield or station in the case of arrival by air or
rail, or where this is not practicable, at the residence of
the visitor. When a visitor by sea returns the first call,
the Governor will receive him at the landing stage and
accompany him to Government House.
In the case of members of royal families other than a sovereign or heir-apparent the Governor will await the call of the visitor at Government House, and return the call
later.

As a matter of courtesy, but not of duty, the Governor might
also return in person the call
in person the call of any such distinguished
visitor as the Governor of a foreign state or province, a
foreign Commander-in-Chief, or a Minister of State.

Although in some Territories the practice still obtains of assembling guests in the drawing room before the Governor (and his wife) appears, in many Territories guests on arriving for official dinner, etc are received by the
Governor (and his wife) in the drawing room as they arrive.
Each would be presented by the Aide-de-Camp.
If a
distinguished visitor were staying at Government House the guests would also be presented to him. The Governor would
shake hands first with each guest.
Except in the circumstances mentioned below the Governor
would offer his arm to the principal
