frequently not inspected.

The Governor then returns to the

front of the guard, thanks the officer commanding the guard, and gives permission, if requested, for the guard to be

marched off. He then acknowledges the salute of the officer

commanding the guard and departs without waiting for the guard to march off. In some Territories, after inspecting

the Guard of Honour, the Governor returns to the saluting

base and receives a second Royal Salute before he leaves.

A guard of honour should always be given, if possible, on

the arrival of any member of a Royal family or of the

President of a republic. At the Governor's discretion guards of honour may also be given on the arrival of high

naval, military or air force officers, or of high civil

officials including high foreign official or personages.

If a guard of honour is given to a member of a Royal family

or to the President of a republic or other distinguished

visitor, and the Governor is present, he should not accompany the distinguished visitor during the inspection of the guard, nor return the salute of a guard given to a distinguished visitor. After the inspection the

distinguished visitor should return to the Governor.

On other occasions the Governor may invite senior officials or distinguished persons to accompany him when he is inspecting the guard; such persons will follow the Governor.
