Dear Mr. Churchion,
LORRAIN OSMAN - Sixth year on remand.
Last year as LORRAIN OSMAN began his fifth year on remand I asked whether you could take an interest in his case.
Another year has passed and he is still held on remand in Brixton Prison.
He has served the equivalent of almost a fifteen year sentence and more than a number of convicted life prisoners released on license.
During the course of the past year the Hong Kong prosecutor who instigated the case and was responsible for the case, has been convicted and jailed for eight years for corruption offences. The Government's major witness has admitted criminally receiving over US$11m in bribes.
A key member of the Malaysian Government has been implicated in a potential bribe of US$50m and in the murder of an auditor involved in the matter.
The Governor of Hong Kong had earlier warned that the Malaysian Attorney General, who made the original complaint, "had interests other than those of justice on his mind", when considering the prosecution of Mr Osman.
The facts imply a serious attempt to pervert the course of justice, by at the least a member of the legal department in Hong Kong. The evidence recently made available points to wider involvement by officials.
Given the time he has served Mr Osman's guilt or innocence is no longer an issue. I do beg you therefore, before this case becomes another "Guildford Four", to intervene and ask that the Foreign and Home Secretaries urgently review the case.
mincerely Revin Canoss
