(6) "CHA 1", serial Nos. 4974-4976, 3 letters dated 10th June, 19th April
and 22 nd June 1983 respectively, from "Jalil to NMA (Dr. Nawawi mat
Awin, BBMB Chairman) with attachments".
Jalil's brief as Assistant
General Manager of BMFL during the first half of 1983 was solely to
deal with problem loans made by BMFL including, most significantly,
those loans to Carrian and Georgan Tan and their related companies.
This document would, in all likelihood, have concerned BMFL/Carrian.
In this regard, I refer to the minutes of the Special Meeting of the
Board on 31st March 1983 and to item 3 on pages 31 and 32 thereof
(45-47) which record a discussion concerning securities and other
forms of collateral already provided or to be made available to BMFL
by the Carrian group. It will be noted that a complete listing of
the securities and collateral based on the aggregate acquisition
costs of about HK$5.25 billion had been prepared by Jalil and given
to and examined by BBMB's external auditors, but I am advised by my
lawyers that no such document has been found in the BBMB files during
the inspection. It may be amongst the documents and/or files
currently missing and would be highly relevant to my case.
