AUS TRAVEL BUDGETS 1991-92

1. I attach a summary of the instructions and procedure on the AUS travel budget scheme. This guidance will shortly be incorporated into a revision of DSP Vol 4.5

16 million.

2. The overall budget for 1990/91 was £2.5 million (against total bids of £3.1 million). The budget for 1991/92 has been set at £2.9

The 1690 increase in budget will, I regret, barely cover higher costs. Therefore it is again unlikely that we shall be able to meet your bids in full. I take this opportunity of reminding you that the whole sum is allocated. We do not retain a contingency

reserve.

3. I should be grateful if you would now give consideration for your overseas travel estimates for the year beginning 1 April, and let me have your bids by 28 February. It will assist us, and Resource Management Department who make recommendations on individual allocations, if you could produce two lists under the headings of "desirable" and "necessary": proposals under these headings should be in order of priority. We need to know the reason

briefly - for the journey (eg to attend General Assembly meeting) and the cost: if you wish to add any short comments to support a trip they would be welcome. We do not need your detailed costings (ie an analysis of fares, subsistence, incidentals etc): but you should keep your research on file for your own monitoring purposes.

-

4. I attach a listing of current subsistence rates which will help with your calculations, and a copy of the general guidance on classes of travel. The Travel Centre is ready to practice details of air fares.

provide

5. Please help us to help you by meeting the deadline of end February. We need to submit the bids to RMD in the first week of March if we are to be in a position to authorise budgets by 1 April.
