British Citizenship for Hong Kong Eurasians
Now that the applications for the first phase of the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Scheme have been received by the Administration, my Committee have instructed me to revert to you on the matter of the grant of British Citizenship for Hong Kong Eurasians who do not already possess third country nationality or citizenship.
The case for special consideration of our community remains as previously submitted - namely, that we are the section of the population most at risk
risk when Hong Kong reverts to China in 1997 because:

Our blood links with the former Colonial Power, Britain, make us a continuing reminder of the blot on China's history brought about by the Opium Wars;
Our steadfast support of the Crown throughout Hong Kong's history, as exemplified in General Maltby's Despatch on the Defence of Hong Kong in 1941, further marks us as a suspect group; and
we look different and are commonly included among the "foreign devils": the 1970's persecution of the Farmer family in North China, where they had lived and worked for over 50 years and they spoke Chinese only, is ready evidence of the danger we will face.
