Department, which included the enquiry on the debit mentioned above. I have been asked to reply and explain some of the background to this.

Under the terms of the Selection Scheme for the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act 1990, extra points are available for those employed by British companies in Hong Kong.

In order to establish that a number of companies were indeed British undertakings, it was necessary to conduct searches through Companies House here in the UK. For some of these enquiries it proved necessary to engage a commercial agency. The Director of Administration authorised the expenditure up to £2000 for this purpose. You may like to consult his office if there are further enquires, referring to the following telegrams:
