Short biographical notes on Lord Derwent and
Mr Simon Murray are attached.
2. Mr Simon Murray, the Managing Director of Hutchison Whampoa in Hong Kong, is in London to attend a concert and supper at the Festival Hall organised by the Anglo Hong Kong Trust and the Chinese Cultural Centre (and sponsored by Hutchison Whampoa) on Monday evening 11 February. The concert is being held to mark a donation to the South Bank
Centre by two of the Trust's Council Members. Those who
have agreed to attend the concert/supper include HRH
Princess Alexandra, the Secretary of State and Mrs Hurd and
the Chinese Ambassador as well as Lord Caithness.
3. The main topic of conversation during the call on Lord Caithness is likely to be the nationality package. At its meeting on 29 January the Advisory Committee decided to include Hutchison Whampoa and Hong Kong Electric in the list of British Undertakings but to reject Cheung Kong Holdings and Cavendish International. The Hutchison Group were considered to qualify on the grounds of their imports from the UK (£31 million per year) and because of their joint ventures with Cable and Wireless and British Telecom.
