In the view of the Advisory Committee, this group of 56 companies qualify under D (1), D (ii) and D (iii). Approval was based on the following:

1) over 25% of the equity of Jardine Matheson Holdings & Co - the apex of this group - is

is owned by BCs;

2) the operations of the group are managed by over 300 BCs;

3) the group is involved in major joint venture operations such as Jardine Fleming (50/50 holding with Robert Fleming), Gammon Construction Ltd and Gammon Building Construction Ltd (both 50/50 holdings with Trafalgar House) and Jardine Riche Monde (Jardines 25%, United Distillers/Guinness 37.5%, Moet Hennessey 37.5%). All the companies listed have a Jardines or Jardines plus British partner content of at least 50% with the exception of the Hong Kong Land companies who qualify under D (1) and D (ii). These companies are entirely British managed and Jardines have a 34% holding.

Part of the Shell Group of Companies operating in Hong Kong. It is a subsidiary of Shell Petroluem NV of the Netherlands. its 7 directors 4 are BCs. Shell is an alliance between Royal Dutch Petroleum Company and the Shell Transport & Trading Company Plc. Shell Transport has a 40% interest in the Group.
