check on personality by both UK and HK agencies to confirm that the applicant is of good character (this is also required of spouses and minor children); and

verification of relationship between the principal applicant and his dependant(s) by the Immigration Department.

The 100 SSC applications in this batch, with 91 spouses and 109 minor children included, have gone through the above steps. Personality checks and verification interviews have not revealed any adverse information on any of these applicants or their dependants. All the 100 applicants and their 200 dependants appear to be suitable for recommendation by the Governor to the Secretary of State for registration as British citizens pursuant to Section 1(1) and Schedule 2 respectively of the British Nationality (Hong Kong) Act 1990.
