The target for processing applications has now been revised from
17,000 to 20,000 per year. This means that about 60,000 persons would be

registered in year as British citizens under the Scheme. A majority of
places available under the first tranche of the scheme i.e. 43,000
households will be distributed well before the close of the first tranche
on 31 December 1993.
FORMATION OF TASK GROUPS

It is envisaged that a vast amount of detailed work for the
Steering Committee will be generated by the processing of applications,
particularly those submitted in the General Occupational Class.

composition as set out in Annex B. The Task Group on General
Occupational Class and Scheme Coordination is expected to be required to
meet frequently, as much as twice a week. The other two are likely to
meet at fortnightly intervals. The Task Groups will ensure that all
information required by the Steering Committee for their deliberations
will be provided on time and adequate analyses are carried out on queue
composition. They would also make other recommendations to the Steering
Committee on miscellaneous policy matters.
