Objective

To publicise the British nationality scheme and the application procedures for British citizenship under the Scheme. Publicity should be informative, not promotional.

Phase 1

November 1990, when Order in Council was passed by Parliament

1. Publication of General Guide to British Nationality Selection Scheme to explain application procedures, allocation of places and points system. Guide available free of charge from about 200 outlets including all district offices, post offices, immigration offices, Government Publications Sales Centre and overseas offices.

2. Series of press releases on:

(a)

Passage of Order by Parliament, together with launching date, application period and facilities available to help the public to apply.

(b) Arrangements to ensure confidentiality.

(c) Making of Order by Privy Council.

(d) Direction on tranching issued by Home Secretary.

(e) Allocation of quotas for occupational groups and approved

occupations.

(f) Gazetting of local and UK regulations and formal appointment of

Steering Committee members.
