ICI STRATEGY INTO CHINA
After several decades of trading U.K. produced goods into
China, ICI are embarking on a series of investments over the
next five years in the PRC.
Our technology has been licensed to a number of plants in
China including the Puraspec Catalytic process at the
Sinopec Qilu plant, and Puyang's AMV plant.
We are currently planning to establish a Polyurethanes Technical Services Centre in Shanghai with further prospects of manufacturing developments with a Chinese partner. We are also in the process of acquiring land to build a paint
factory in Guangzhou with the Swire Group as a partner. Concurrently we are having discussions in respect of a very large project in the Southern Coastal region and we expect
this to materialize in the mid 1990's.
THE FUTURE ROLE OF THE HONG KONG TEAM
These projects necessitate the recruitment and training of a
great number of employees in the PRC. From about 20 in
1990, we expect to employ close to 150 by 1993. The
complexity and diversity of our business, as well as the sudden growth expected in the PRC require a strong and dedicated central
central management which will be based in Hong Kong.
