OF LORDS
As from:
18th March, 1991
The Rt. Hon. Douglas Hurd CBE., PC., MP.,
Secretary of State for Foreign and
Commonwealth Affairs,
Foreign & Commonwealth Office,
Whitehall,
London SW1.
Dear Seerevany,
We hear that only 65,000, not the loudly predicted 250,000 people in Hong Kong applied for UK Passports after all.
I suppose there is no way we could grant them all, and save the Governor and his staff a dreadful task picking out the unlucky 15,000? To assuage Beijing, could the oldest 15,000 be identified separately later as granted on compassionate grounds?
Yours sincerely,
John Gurtaped.
Lord Butterfield of Stechford
