I warmly
Clamp
9 September 1991
welcome the Landscape Institute's
plans to hold a Congress in Hong Kong in 1993
devoted to the theme of "Urban Growth and the Environment".
I am happy to see that the list of participants is
SO international, including expertise from both Hong Kong and China.
Hong Kong with its experience of massive urban growth over the past decade, and an increasing realization of the need to look after the
environment as well as growth, would be an ideal setting for such a Congress. In particular, our experience of housing urban squatters, and the major part which public housing and other assisted housing have played in our economic and social development, should be of considerable interest to
participants.
the
Indeed, those who attend will find many practical examples of issues which they will be discussing.
Furthermore they will have an opportunity to enjoy the many facilities which the superb setting of Hong Kong has to offer.
