The Secretary of State has seen a copy of Stephen Wall's letter of 28 May asking that Sir G Howe be brought up to date on developments in Hong Kong. As the Secretary of State told you this afternoon, he will ring Sir G Howe over the weekend and offer a full briefing by officials, including the record of his talks with Wu.
The Secretary of State has commented that he would also like to brief again the group of backbenchers whom he saw before going to Peking, including Sir Peter Blaker and Sir Richard Luce.
