Mr Martin called subsequently and confirmed his acceptance Our invitation to visit Hong Kong. He would fly out on 4.1.92. and return to London on 13.1.92.

He said that his interests would be:

problem of illegal immigrants on the border
visiting the Gurkhas
visiting VM camp
briefing on new airport
briefing on constitutional issues (in particular Court of Final Appeal)
meeting with the Governor
meeting with OMELCO members
meeting with business people
meeting with other people that can be knitted into the programme
Mr Martin asked me to contact Messrs Andrew Burns and Peter Ricketts. for any suggestion they would like to make on/add to these proposals.
4. Could you kindly let me have the views of Messrs Burns and Ricketts. so that I can work out the visit programme accordingly?
5. In view of the proximity of the visit. your early response will be most appreciated.
