PRIME MINISTER'S VISIT TO CHINA: MEETING BETWEEN SIR R MCLAREN AND LU PING

Peking telno 1640 is a little curious. Sir R McLaren's telegram seeking our views on his proposal to see Lu Ping early next week was sent on 19 August. Yesterday morning I spoke to Ms Rogan in Peking to check that no action had been taken there and said that we would be telegraphing during the course of the day. She took note and will no doubt have informed Sir R McLaren.
