PRIME MINISTER'S VISIT TO CHINA: SIGNING CEREMONY SPEECH
1. I have seen Peking telno 1641. I think it most undesirable to let the Chinese have advance sight of the Prime Minister's draft speech at this ceremony. There is no need for it as we have our own interpreter. (Indeed, perhaps someone from the Embassy could do this set piece?)
2. I seem to recall that during Mrs Thatcher's visit in 1982 the Chinese raised objection to a passage in her draft speech at the Great Hall banquet and we duly struck it out. wish to ask Mr Wye (RAD) to check the papers.
