KING AND QUEEN OF TONGA: TRANSIT HONG KONG 6-9 NOVEMBER

1. I attach copies of two fax letters from the Tonga High Commission, the first of which, dated 23 October, gives details of where the King and Queen will stay in Hong Kong and whether the accompanying Security Officer will be armed. Please pass this information to Hong Kong.

2.

The second fax letter, dated 24 October, replies to the Governor of Hong Kong's invitation to lunch on 8 November

(telno 3286), which I passed to the Tongans. The King and Queen have accepted the invitation; the only member of the accompanying party who will actually attend the lunch with them will be the Honourable Tutoatasi Fakafanua, an addition to the original list. Some of the other members of the party may accompany Their Majesties to Government House (eg Lady-in-Waiting, Security Officer), but will not actually sit down to lunch. I should be grateful if you would also forward this information to Government House.
