Date

3 April 1991

I refer to your fax message and our telephone discussion of 3 April 1991 with regard to the criminal record of James Boyle.

I have to inform you that Mr Boyle's record is still live and accurate.

The weeding policy for persons who have served a term of imprisonment is 70 years of age and the conviction is 30 years old plus any period of imprisonment imposed.

in Mr Boyle's case this means his record is on file until he dies as he is, at present, released from Prison on a Life Licence, having been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder.

This weeding policy was approved by the SCRO Controlling Committee which includes all the Chief Constables of Scotland and members of the Scottish Office.

I trust this is of assistance to you.

Yours faithfully
