New Airport Contracts

1. Of the 21
awarded to
consultancies
let So far, 14 have been
British firms or their Hong Kong
affiliates, a further four to consortia with British
partners. (Two were awarded to US firms, and three to
consortia with a US partners.)

Of the four major engineering
contracts awarded so
far, one was to a Hong Kong firm with 50% British
interests, namely the West Kowloon reclamation, Phase
I Contract awarded to Gammon Construction Ltd. (None
of the contracts went to US firms.)

Of the four prequalified
Bridge

tenderers for the Tsing Ma
Contract, one is a UK/Japanese consortium.
(One of the competing consortia includes a small US
element there is no other US involvement.)

Of the six consortia on the shortlist for the airport site preparation contract, three include British firms
(three include US firms).
5. Although the US firm Bechtel has the overall programme
management consultancy, it has no influence over the
selection of consultants and contractors. The design
work for the two largest elements of the project have
been undertaken by :

Greiner-Maunsell, a US, British and Hong Kong consortium, who are doing the civil engineering
design work for the airport; and
Mott MacDonald HK, a Hong Kong company with
British affiliations, who are doing the design work for the Tsing Ma Bridge.
