I recently took advice from Lord Caithness's office about whether the Foreign Secretary would be likely to have any objections to Lord Ferrers visiting Singapore from 31 December to 3 January and Hong Kong from 4 January to 8 January. understand that there would not be any objections.

Nevertheless the purpose of this note is to ask you to seek the Foreign Secretary's formal approval for this visit, the purpose of which is to look at various aspects of policing.
