VISIT OF THE SECRETARY OF STATE TO HONG KONG: 2-3 APRIL AND

8-9 APRIL

1. The Governor has sent us a revised outline programme. But some outstanding points remain to be settled (Hong Kong

telnos 839 and 861).

2. I should therefore be grateful for guidance on the following:

(a) Would the Secretary of State like to have drinks

with Conservatives abroad? The Special Adviser recommends

that he should do so; Lord Caithness, however, does not

believe that the Secretary of State needs to see them.

(b) Would the Secretary of State like the senior British

Trade Commissioner, Mr Heap, and the senior JLG

representative, Mr Galsworthy, to be invited to the dinner at Government House on 2 April?

(c) The Secretary of State has asked to have an

opportunity to stretch his legs after his arrival on 2 April. The Governor has asked whether the Secretary of State would like to go for a proper walk (as opposed to, for example, a walk around the garden at Government House).

Would Mrs Hurd like to take part in this?
