I am grateful for your kind words of welcome.
wife and I would like to thank you and Mrs Lages Ribeiro
for your warm hospitality in Macau today.
I have of course heard much of Macau, and developments on
the West side of the Pearl River, and I am delighted to
have had this opportunity to see this at first hand.
This morning I had a very useful session with Your
Excellency's colleagues, discussing political and
economic events in the region. And I understand that I
will see something of Macau's fascinating history this
afternoon.
This is
Britain of course made a historical contribution to
Macau, and I am glad to hear that we are still
participating keenly in the projects of today.
something which underlines the links between Portugal and
Britain, Hong Kong and Macau. I share Your Excellency' s
recognition of the value of those links.
May I propose a toast to the health of His Excellency the
Acting Governor and to the prosperous development of
Macau.
