LORD CAITHNESS' VISIT TO HONG KONG, 6-7 DECEMBER

I telephoned PS/GH to ask about the promised telegrams on the mood in Hong Kong and the OMELCO meeting. Mr Hoare said the mood telegram was on its way but that the OMELCO telegram would not issue until tomorrow. I recommended he side-copy to Peking in case it did not reach us before the Minister's departure. He will do so.

He said that the recommendation for the OMELCO meeting was likely to be an informal tea party, but that would depend on what the LegCo members themselves wanted, and he would be speaking to them tomorrow to determine what that was.
