Following a number of incidents of incursion into Hong Kong waters by vessels manned by Chinese officials in May this year, the Political Adviser's office made representations to the NCNA and a reduction in such

activities took place. Between May and mid October only six incidents were taken up with the NCNA. However since mid

October seven further incidents have occured, five of which

involved the use of fire arms by Chinese officials. The

most recent incidents are worrying because they seem to

indicate the involvement in criminal activities

(smuggling) of members of the Chinese security forces.
