LORD CAITHNESS' TRIP TO HONG KONG, SOUTH PACIFIC FORUM AND THE PHILIPPINES
1.
As I have already mentioned to each of you on the telephone, Lord Caithness would like to have a first look at the briefs for this trip over the weekend of 13-14 July. I should therefore be grateful if they could reach this office by 1700 at the latest on Friday 12 July (2 copies please). This will leave the following week available for any amendments or revisions for which the Minister may ask.
2. The Hong Kong brief should be as concise as possible, consisting mainly of essential facts and figures on the main issues together with short lines to take where necessary. The briefing supplied for the informal session with the FAC is a good model. The briefs for the other two elements of the visit will need to be fuller, since Lord Caithness is a little less familiar with the subjects. They should be in the same format as the briefs supplied by respective departments for. the Australia/New Zealand and Malaysia/Singapore/Indonesia trips earlier this year.
