LORD CAITHNESS' VISIT TO HONG KONG
Anti dumping measures against small screen TV's for Hong
Kong
POINTS TO MAKE (IF RAISED)
UK opposed Commission's proposal for provisional duties against small screen TV's for Hong Kong.
We argued that we could not see how an open economy like
Hong Kong could be guilty of dumping. We also pointed to
the consumer interest.
-
Unfortunately there was not sufficient support for our
view.
(FOR HKG ONLY)
Long term solution must be work for fairer anti dumping
rules in GATT, in the Uruguay Round and beyond.
