VISIT OF DIRECTOR-GENERAL FOR ASIAN AFFAIRS, JAPANESE MFA
1.
Mr Takahashi of the Japanese Embassy telephoned me today to give the details of the visit to the UK of Mr Tanino, the Director-General for Asian Affairs in the Japanese MFA, and Mr Kohno, the Director of the First South-East Asian Department (which deals with Indo-China) foreshadowed in Tokyo telno 846. They will be arriving in the UK on the evening of 24 October, and would like to hold a meeting with you on either the morning or the afternoon of Friday 25 October. The telegram refers to a half-day of talks, but Mr Takahashi thought that a meeting lasting (say) 1 hours would be sufficient. The Japanese agenda is Cambodia, Indo-China, developments on the Korean peninsula and China.
