3 June: Miyamoto, Head of China Division, MFA and officials had talks with HKD in London. Miyamoto said Japanese Government taking closer interest than before in Hong Kong and were ready to try to influence China to behave more
reasonably.
15 April: Head of Policy Planning Staff discussed Hong Kong with MFA officials in Tokyo. They argued that the way to protect Hong Kong was to preserve its usefulness to China: we should focus on economic rather than political freedoms.
