Landscaping Notes

A detailed tree survey will be issued separately.

1. The requirement will be for an attractive low maintenance scheme to set off to full advantage the new buildings, to screen from view adjoining properties and at the same time maintain any vistas which present themselves.

Landscaping Guidance

2. Trees will be an important feature and therefore any existing ones which are in good condition and would not conflict with building operations should be protected and preserved. Additional trees will need planting in pits which have been excavated and prepared in advance. They will require staking as the prevailing north easterly wind will otherwise influence the direction of growth.

3. The existing top soil is generally shallow and of poor quality and overlies rock which in places protrudes. Where practical the soil should be stripped off and stacked for re-use on the site.

4. It is recommended that all planting will require a soil mixture comprising 50% black cotton soil and 50% red coffee soil with humus and fertiliser added.

5. Because of the rocky site and the degree of slope, planting will predominantly be in raised beds with the more decorative planting confined to conspicuous areas around the buildings and entrances.

6. As rainfall is seasonal a simple practical irrigation system will be required to cover all planted areas including lawns.

7. In shrubberies, ground cover plants are advisable to ensure that soil is not exposed to erosion and to aid conservation of moisture.
