1.0 The required internal environmental design conditions are:
i.
Provision of Computer/VDU Systems
j.
Catering Facilities
a.
Temp. 24°C dB ± 2°C at 50% RH ± 10% RH
k.

Corridors 100 lux
2.0 Services shall be designed to the standards recommended by CIBSE/ASHRAE and will include:
a.
Air Conditioning/Ventilation: As necessary in limited areas, mainly registry areas (see Appendix A) and toilet areas.
b.
Domestic Hot Water Service
C.
Heating - Fire place in housing
d.
Internal Lighting and Power
e.
External Lighting
f.
g.
Lighting Protection
Emergency Power, External Electrical Services
and Mains Conditioning Equipment
3.0 The design shall encourage good natural cross ventilation.
4.0 Active and passive energy conservation measures shall be adopted
5.0 All systems proposed must be reliable, quiet in operation and easily maintained. The design shall take account of its environment and not utilise any locally unproven technology.
6.0 At present the local power distribution in Nairobi is predominantly by overhead cables with polemounted transformers. The proposed BHC will utilise the existing 11kV distribution that runs along the Upper Hill Road site boundary for an envisaged supply of 200 to 250 KVA.
An underground link is required from a substation located on the site boundary and the main distribution. The transformer may be a pole mounted unit, in a special enclosure allowing it to be floor mounted. An area of 5.4m x 4.4m will be required
by the Kenya Light and Power Company (KLPC) for the substation with access direct from the site boundary.
The existing 415V overhead line that divides the site will be moved upon request by the KLPC, possibly to an underground line run under the proposed footpath. The KLPC impose a cost penalty for poor power factor correction.
The project will include standby power generation but this will not operate in parallel with the KLPC supply.
7.0 A full design brief, expanding the given parameters will be available to the author of the winning design.
