Chinese and English are official languages in Hong Kong. down in the Official Languages Ordinance (Cap. 5, Laws of Hong Kong) that both languages can be used for communication with the Government and Chinese is in fact widely used by Government departments when corresponding with members of the public and in other official business. Important documents, announcements, speeches are published in both English and Chinese and simultaneous interpretation is provided for the open proceedings of the Legislative Council and Urban Council.
